Policy Statement
The RLML acquires print and electronic materials that support the educational, clinical, and research programs of the IUSM. Factors that determine information resource selection at RLML are described below.
Selection criteria:
- Content supports mission of the IUSM
- Requested by IUSM faculty, staff, or students
- Frequently cited
- Indexed in Medline (if applicable)
- Uniqueness of content
- Cost within library budget
- Online availability to primary users on and off campus
- License provides for perpetual and accessible digital archive
- License terms allow for interlibrary loan by electronic means
- IUSM contributors
De-selection criteria:
- Low use in relation to cost
- Format is no longer accessible
- Resource is damaged
Reason for Policy
To create a collection of library materials that supports the mission of the IU School of Medicine (IUSM).
Procedures
Responsibility for managing the library collection rests with the RLML Content Management Team in consultation with the IUSM Library Collection Budget Committee.

- Policy created on 13 March 2013.
- Policy revised on 17 April 2017 to remove language on percentages assigned to budget categories and usage statistics.
